The President promised transparency and "no more secrets." He promised all meetings on Health Care Reform televised on C-Span. Instead we have secret meetings behind closed doors. He promised bills posted online so the public could get involved in the debate. But there have been numerous bills out there. We don't know which one to consider and they are way too convoluted and long for most people, including congress to understand – which is why they are not being read by the very people who are responsible for voting for them. He promised to do away with lobbyists. Yet, they continued to control Washington.

As a registered Independent, I say NO to government-run health care.
NO to Internet “Neutrality.” (The “nicer” the name, the more insidious)
NO to the “Fairness” Doctrine (The "nicer" the name, the more insidious)
NO to a second "stimulus"
NO to controlling the press
NO to cap and trade
NO to COP 15 Treaty (essentially signing away US sovereignty to an un-elected world entity)

YES to transparency “no more secrets”
YES to all meetings being televised on C-Span (expect those that would compromise national security)
YES to doing away with lobbyists
YES to the Constitution and limited government, government spending and government control.
YES to congress on Social Security with the rest of us.
YES to a balanced budget
YES to doing away with Czars

More and more people are realizing that the bills that are being proposed and rushed by this Congress under the guise of helping Americans, are actually going to CONTROL them. Americans don’t mind being represented but they resent and resist being controlled. And they most certainly do not want any American President to sign any treaty that would give any of our sovereignty away. I would like to know if you have read the most current draft of this treaty and your thoughts on it.

I support President Obama. People who cry "socialism" need to study history and FACTS. I know many of you would abolish the department of education (a socialist program), Medicare (another socialist program). You would also destroy institutions such as the FDA, Interstate Highways, National Parks. Clearly you have no use for the Library of Congress — that fancy book-learnin' always leads to liberalism. (Interesting how when people understand history and science they tend to lean left. It is NOT the instructors "indoctrinating" — it is, in fact, people DOING better after they KNOW better.) You will NEVER convince me we would be better off with McCain, who thought the economy was just fine a year ago, sitting in the white house, with Sarah Palin LITERALLY a heartbeat away from the commander-in-chief position. Why weren't you people paying any attention over the last eight years as Bush & Co were polishing a giant turd for the next president? They had to know next would be a Dem. Republicans convince you Government is bad, then when they get the chance they prove it. My husband's health care was cancelled when I was pregnant with our older daughter because he was changing jobs (he had not yet changed jobs). We contacted the Department of Labor. It scared the crap out of his almost former employer and his health care was reinstated. There are steps you can take when dealing with situations such as these.

He would not need to get the "counsel" of the government to face the end of his life. He would not have been under the plan he and the other elitists are trying to force on us (the serfs). Implementing a Socialist, National, government-run, single-payer system GUARANTEES people dying because of them HAVING health care. That is what happens in the U.K. It is mandated that in order to operate an automoble, one must have insurance. The same solution could be inplemented for catastrophic health insurance, and, if someone goes to an emergency room for a serious injury/illness, the government will still pay the tab if that person has no insurance. That will never change, as it gives government a say in your life (power over you). No one ever went broke paying for a routine doctor's visit. People need to look behind the rhetoric of this administration to see what it really wants to do. It has nothing to do with cost containment or "giving" us health care. It has everything to do with controlling as many aspects of our lives as possible. If the government controls your health care, it controls your body. If it controls your body, it controls YOU. How much more control can it get over our lives? Don't you find this absolutely terrifying?

I think that a minimal health care benefit as a option should be available for those who can't afford one. In return the individual needs to work for the government at some level if they are unemployed and not paying taxes. No one who doesn't pay taxes should receive benefits with the exception of the elderly, severly disabled and those under 18.Government work should be done in return for healthcare benefits, not pay. These jobs can be jobs such as census, packing envelopes, picking up roadside debri, etc. How can individuals capable of working be home all day and expect benefits while the rest of us work year after year and have children/families and not work??? Who elected this guy??? We are headed for a dictatorship. Being President is not about color,or parties it is about doing a good job for the people of America!Wake up America & watch who we put in government! It is our agenda not theirs!

First – The tenth amendment to the Constitution states “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”.
The Federal government is an “agent” to the states, not vice versa. It is going far beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers. The current grassroots movement in state legislatures across the country where resolutions affirming the sovereignty of the state attest this mandate.

Second – According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, only 2 percent of medical students are entering primary care internal medicine. And according to the U.S. Census Bureau there are 47 million people in this country without medical coverage. That said and assuming the Federal government imposes some form of universal healthcare, it seems statistically impossible to accommodate the currently uninsured and at the same time continuing at least the same level of quality healthcare to the currently insured.

YES, TWINHEART, I agree with your eloquently written opinion. I agreed with Sen. Kennedy that American citizens all have a right to decent medical care and when the medical options run out to, at the very least, be able to live out our last days with dignity and with people who love us, as he obviously did. Having the government do this for us would be a BIG MISTAKE. I really think that the MAJOR TASK of government should be to focus on protecting this nation from terrorists who, if they could, would obliterate our very own judaeochristian identity which from the beginning of our nation has provided THE MORALCOMPASS that has made us great.

I remember listening to Senator Kennedy eulogize his brother Robert Kennedy. When I think of him, those images and those words are what come to mind. ____While I never agreed with his political views, I did respect his passion, his determination and his eloquence, something that is quickly becoming a thing of the past in our political arena of today. Today our representatives resort to publicity stunts and incoherent babble, all the while placing their own pockets and personal interests before the benefit, safety and security of the Nation. Despite a crippling disease, Senator Kennedy met it with strength. He met it with the support of his family and the best medical care in the world. Senator Kennedy did not need the counsel of the government to face the end of his days. He met his death on his own terms, not on the terms of the government and he did so with grace and dignity. To see such bravery used to further an agenda that the majority of Americans do not wish to see implemented is an insult to the memory of all that the Senator achieved and the eloquence and grace with which it was achieved. ____

Bureaucracy is not the answer; nothing should interfere with or violate the doctor/patient relationship. People should have real options in their lives. Improvements are necessary, but not government run health care. Health care professionals should set the standards. not politicians who just want easy votes from goodnatured but naive Americans.

If Obama wants to pick a brilliant health care czar, I recommend Betsy McCaugh-I think she's one of the few people who actually read the bill.

I cannot find it in the Constitution where the Federal Government had been granted powers to determine how any American is to be cajoled into any health care plan that he or she does not want.
Obama and his merry friends keep saying that the insurance companies are at fault, but never give evidence to support his fatuous claims, because none exist, but that typical of this man.
The fact is this so called health care is in reality, people control just as in the former Soviet Union.
We are told that if we don’t sign up for any government plan we will be fined. This sound like extortion used by the Al Capon operation in Chicago when he shook down business owners to pay for “insurance” on their business.
Health care belongs in the hands of the medical community and the American people, not in the hands of an incompetent corrupt intrusive government.

My husband's health care was cancelled twice in two years–first because Medicare claimed he was dead and then because he was working. Neither was true, and it took at least a dozen phone calls and visits to the Social Security office to get things straightened out we thought. Yesterday he got another letter claiming he was working and Medicare was not his primary payer. We're on the treadmill again. Government administration of the program is frustrating and inept. We are well on the way to becoming a third-world country.

The Roman empire was plagued with the same problems we have today..over immigration, devalued currency, poor and corrupt govt and leadership, splintering of a common culture, a cacacphony of languages and diverging cultures (pagan/christian/barbarian), and borders that failed to maintain themselves, increasing foreign enemies, etc. This all led to its fall and likewise we are doomed. The USA will become a number of separate smaller nations…hispanic ones, muslim ones, wasp ones, etc. all because we cannot agree that we need to have a commonality as Americans that includes a common language, and non-porous borders, and a common culture in which past waves of immigrants became acclimated. The USA is becoming diffused, divided and there is nothing holding it together that will have any staying power UNLESS things change and we get back to traditional values of what it means to be American.

Health care reform begins with Tort reform; There must be limits. The lawyers are responsible for many of the cost problems with health care. If someone accidently loses a leg due to negligence, what is 200 million going to do (with up to 50% oe more going to the attorneys) that 5 million cannot. Frivilous lawsuits, as identified by certain parameters, should require the person who sued to pay both their and the defendents attorneys fees. That will stop most of them. Tort reform will bring down premiums by a huge amount…start there!

As someone who voted for President Obama for positive change, his administration has been one of devisivness and arrogance (see Nancy Pelosi and Rahm Emanuel, Ezekiel Emanuel, etc). He defiles the Constitution. In the incident with Prof Gates, by playing the race card, after admitting he did not know the facts, was emblematic of President Obama's orientation. He could have been a beacon of healing, instead he teaches another generation of american youth to make excuses, blame racism, and that you do not have to take responsibility and respect authority.

President Obama clearly, by his comments, has not read the health care reform legislation. Admittedly, virtually all the congressmen and women have not either. What level of integrity is implied when they try to "strong arm" this by us and yet they all opt out of the coverage for themselves and their families? The cost and impact are both underestimated. He now describes those who speak out as an "angry mob", urges those supporting his agenda to report us and "get in our face"…who is this man? Certainly not the one I thought I was voting for. Congress must protect us from an extremist presidency run amuck.

We can — and should drive down the cost of health care to an affordable level. And we can and should do it with free market economics. If insurance deductibles were higher, people would shop for value, something they do not do when costs are transparent. If insurance covered catastrophic care, people would not go bankrupt trying to pay for unavoidable medical expenses. It makes no sense that insurance covers cholesteral drugs for life, but not an appointment with a nutritionist that might help eliminate the need for the drugs. I went to a tea party in Rochester on July 3rd and there was NO local news coverage, though all the local stations and paper had been told about it. I fully concur with the statement of this petition. Most actions we as a society and individuals take have a "delayed" effect. The reward for a good action, just like the pain/consequences resulting from a bad action may not be felt until later on. So it can be difficult to forsee or understand the results until they occur. If you work hard, get educated, you will most likely reap the rewards for those actions and efforts long afterwards. The same is true if you make bad descions, and take actions like doing drugs, remaining dependant on others, or cheat or steal, you will probably suffer for those actions/decisions at a later date. This is why most people as they mature in life and become wiser (having learned/experienced the effects and results of their actions/decisions) often say " if I only knew then – what I know now, things may have turned out differently"

My advice to government (the same goes for business and life): "Slow down, take time to evaluate, and think through your actions before taking them" and learn from the history of your own as well as others actions". "A yellow street light means just that! "Slow down and prepare to stop, not spead up and race through". Why do we need government run health care anyway…the poor and the illegals already get free health care. I for one am sick of my tax dollars going to take care of the illegals while they send their money to their country. Our health care would be MUCH better off if we STOPPED paying for all the health care of the illegals. I can understand taking care of them in case of emergency, but these illegals flood our hospitals even when they have a cold. Parkland Hospital in Texas, doesn't even ask the Hispanics when they come in if they have health insurance. They just treat them and no questions asked, while we pay for it. Our health care system wouldn't cost so much if we weren't paying billions for the illegals. Did you know that when you stay in the hospital, part of the cost of your hospital stay goes to pay for the uninsured? You are already paying for the uninsured. Do you think that is going to change with National Health Care? No, we'll end up paying more. And the Seniors are really going to suffer more.

The proposed healthcare reform is just part of Obama's bigger plan to grant amnesty to the 20M or so illegal immigrants mainly at the expense of our senior citiizens and other chronically ill individuals who would be denied coverage or recieve lesser coverage under a national plan. Once a national healthcare plan is in place, then Obama would have them and their family members, possibly an additional 60 to 90 million people who cannot pay for healthcare on their own, to join this plan. Medicare and Medicaid which cover only a percent of the population are both bankrupt. If these smaller plans cannot be funded, how can you expect the government to fund a much larger plan unless they they raise your income and other taxes substantially.
So while you have the chance, please speak up or write in protest to your congress person and senators. Once this plan is passed there will no turning back. You and your descendants will be stuck with it forever. In America, a citizen has the right to free speech and to dissent as needed. Now is the time to be courageous and unite in protest and make our views known to the politicians about the damage the proposed plans will do to our country and to us as individuals.

Our legislators are not not trained in business management. They do not understand basic business management concepts, and should not be allowed to run our major businesses. Case in point – the "Cash For Clunkers" program. The government published a "coupon" for a discount on a product "while supplies last". It resulted in a massive rush that totally wiped out the amount allocated for that promotion within a week. A wise business person would have reacted by saying "perhaps my initial discount was too generous – there is a tremendous demand out there. I may be able to generate steady ongoing sales with a smaller discount". But our legislators don't think that way – they just threw more money at the program, because now that some people have gotten a $4500 discount, everyone should be entitled to the same deal.

It appears to me more and more that the current administration is engaging in income redistribution at the expense and loss of our traditional American values and work ethic. With respect to the proposed healthcare legislation (of which few, if any, of our elected officials have read), we should be demanding of these people to read all bills they will be voting on. I also question the people who are actually writing this material; who are they and what are their societal views. So far their plan is working perfectly – and “as intended”. First they took over the schools and universities – to teach our children what THEY want us to know. (That is the evils of capitalism and the robber-barrons – it doesn’t matter how hard YOU work, the RICH are always taking unfair advantage of you). And “1984″ and “Fehrenheit 451″ were no longer read in schools. They took over the airwaves – I knew this when the television shows and movies about our war victories and movies like Mr Smith Goes To Washington stopped airing and were replaced by movies depicting businesses as evil such as Erin Broderick and China Syndrome. They sedated the masses and freed them from the drudgeries of actually working for a living and saving for the “rainy days” expenses like home ownership, medical expenses, unemployment, and retirement through their fiendish opiates we know as no-down-payment government loans, social security and medicare/medicaid, unemployment “insurance”. What could be easier and more intoxicating and addictive (and at the same time render us permanently helpless and dependent) than to just give us (a government check) for ALL our needs without ever lifting a finger and at the same time enhance our lust life by rendering the family and fidelity passe’? (And by the way you have to vote for them to keep the free money coming). Now they are so confident they can jam whatever socialist crap they want down our maleducated intoxicated throats that they not only don’t READ the bills promulgating this communist agenda, they don’t WRITE them either. It seems hopeless and frightening it is happening so fast.

BUT I have a reason to be optimistic: Americans, informed by talk radio (so preciently given to us by the great Ronald Reagan) are detoxing themselves just in time to begin the great fight against these evil parasites. Their blood-sucking taxes and apparatchik have crippled their source of food (the businesses and working taxpayers) so badly that the parasites are beginning to fall off the host for lack of remaining blood. The government budget collapses and resulting loss of government jobs (because of the businesses they ruined and taxpayers they taxed out of existence)are just beginning and will soon snowball. The great blood feast is ending. Americans are suddenly realizing they really ARE conservative. BUT ONLY BECAUSE TALK RADIO has re-educated us older folks to remember what we already knew, and educated our younger comrades to know what they should have known. LONG LIVE TALK RADIO! My husband, 2 daughters and I never vote for anyone on the Democratic/Liberal/Socialist/Communist/Green, etc. tickets for anything. It makes no difference; there aren't enough non-Liberal/Democratic people in this area to make a difference. There is no reason for anyone to fear how they vote; for now, anyway, it is still a secret ballot. New Yorkers, from the very beginning of our Republic, have always played it safe (NY abstained from even voting for indepence from England). There are people who always vote Democratic simply because they are Democrats. They are totally brainwashed. They won't even consider the other side of issues. When Bloomberg ran for the second time, a friend of mine said that she and I were finally going to vote for the same person; I told her not to count on it, as I was voting for Ognibene, not Bloomberg, because Ognibene is a Conservative, and Bloomberg was not really a Republican and certainly not a Conservative. Pataki let the Republican Party virtually die in this city and state and there is no sign of any politician (except for a few Indian-Americans) even trying to revive it. We have one party rule in this state (and especially in this city).

Just think-no full paid pensions for life, no cadillac healthcare till they die (D-Bird is 90yrs old-guess he's up for the die lecture), no government jettting commute each week (Pelosi would have to take coach?-I don't think so!!!) AND they just got three new jets!! to the tune of $65 million each on our taxpayer backs.
I bet we could balance the budget without just these above items & all their (new furniture/paint/extra assistants/hit the two-sided button on the printer) incidentials.

The problem is that there are too many people depending on government now, and it will be almost impossible to go back to more private jobs than government jobs (because they are easy jobs to come by without responsibility and without ever getting fired and all the best benefits in the world); therefore, the few remaining in jobs in the private sector (creating wealth) will be paying for all government jobs and the private sector will be paying a higher and higher share of taxes. Keep in mind that the only place growing jobs now is the government because they want us dependent on them. This is a vicious cycle ending with communism; and this is really what the final goal is. Of course public schools and universities are indoctrinating machines which almost brainwash our children into believing that the government is the only solution.

They, of course, will have the "creme da la creme" of the health plans. No one will deny them care or tell them when it is time to die or choose their doctors or medications for them. They (in their own minds, anyway) are much too important to have anything but the best in their health care plans. The private insurance companies, if they will even exist anymore, will exist solely for their benefit. If I have to pay for this garbage, I want the same plan that provided treatment for Kennedy's brain cancer. Wait a minute, why did Kennedy get any treatment at all? Isn't he too old? Why wasn't he just given pain killers? Was he allowed to use his own money to purchase medical care?

You'll get a kick out of this; during the campaign I was actually reading Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, and it was surreal to be reading that 'forecast' of our future even as it was playing out in real life. On top of that I also read Dr Jerome Corsi's book warning of just who and what Obama was, and did you notice that his effort was pooh-pooed by the rest of the 'conservative' punditry. In the end, Corsi's book was right on the mark leaving frauds like Bennett and Medved with egg on their face. I have just finished reading the "Politically Incorrect Guide to the Founding Fathers". We are so far removed from the Founders' intent, it is truly sickening. Non-Democratic and Conservative candidates don't stand a chance of being elected in Bloomberg/Paterson/Schumer Land . My hope is that people who live in the non-brainwashed parts of this country will vote these Liberal/Marxist/Socialist cretins out of office as soon as possible.

I believe in FREEDOM. These Elitists must think the American public are too stupid to be free.
The Declaration, Constitution and Bill of Rights outline the rights of the people and their protections from Gov't.
This administraion has only strenghtened government's rights. Are these three founding documents really outdated. If so, FREEDOM has now become outdated!

The US Government should not own any part of the private economy.

Washington should stop trying to find new ways to waste taxpayer money. If Congress and the Senate focused their efforts on how to save the taxpayer money rather than trying to play rich uncle or sugar daddy, we would be much better off.
